Scones are the perfect accompaniment to a hot cup of tea, best served with butter and jam. Have you ever tried making scones? It’s easier than it looks!

  • 3 cups (750 ml) all-purpose or cake flour
  • 1/2 cup (125 ml) white sugar
  • 5 tsp (25 ml) baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp (2 ml) salt
  • 3/4 cup (175 ml) butter
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup (250 ml) milk


Step 1

Preheat oven to 200ºC. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Cut in butter.

Step 2

Mix the egg and milk in a small bowl, and stir into flour mixture until moistened.

Step 3

Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface, and knead briefly. Roll dough out into a 1/2 inch thick round. Cut into 8 wedges, and place on the prepared baking sheet.

Step 4
Bake 15 minutes in the preheated oven, or until golden brown. Serve with butter or jam.
