Traditional Bobotie
This hearty, traditional bobotie recipe will have everyone dishing seconds.
Ingredients
- 2 slices White bread Without crust
- 625 ml Milk
- 2 Onions Chopped
- 3 Cloves of garlic Crushed
- 750 g Beef mince
- 5 ml Curry powder
- 5 ml Tumeric
- 5ml tsp Cinammon
- 30 ml Apricot jam
- 30 ml Chutney
- 30 ml Tomato paste
- 30 ml Lemon juice
- 30 ml Worcestershire sauce
- 1 large Apple grated
- 250 ml Raisins
- Salt To taste
- Pepper To taste
- 3 large Eggs
- 3 Bay leaves
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 180°C.
- Soak the white bread in 125ml milk and set aside.
- In a pan, sauté the onion and garlic, and add the mince.
- Add the spices, salt and pepper and let it cook for 10min, stirring occasionally.
- Add the rest of the ingredients, including the bread, and mix until well combined. Cook for a further 10min, stirring occasionally.
- Whisk together the eggs and remaining milk, adding salt and pepper to tatse.
- Transfer the bobotie to a baking dish and flatten the surface. Add the egg mixture and bay leaves on top.
- Bake for 30-40min, or until the top is cooked.
